Oklahoma jumped Texas in the BCS standings, which breaks the three-way tie in the Big 12 South. Now Oklahoma will go on to the Big 12 Championship game versus Missouri next week. This is especially crappy since Texas beat Oklahoma earlier in the year. Of course, if Texas had finished off Texas Tech (rather than dropping a game-ending interception and then giving up a last second touchdown to lose the game), all the BCS crap wouldn’t have come into the equation and Texas would beat OU in a two-way tie breaker based on the head-to-head victory.

So now, Oklahoma has the inside track to the national championship game versus whoever wins the SEC championship (Alabama or Florida). If Oklahoma wins, they are a shoe-in. But if they somehow lose to Missouri, that could let Texas slip into the championship game…of course, the fact that they didn’t win their conference might get held against them and possibly either the SEC runner-up or USC could end up in the title game. Hopefully the lack of a conference championship won’t hurt Texas in the final BCS standings if Mizzou wins, considering that 1) they got screwed by the BCS in the first place, which is why they aren’t advancing to the conference champiionship, and 2) they beat Missouri in the regular season already. Of course, I find it highly unlikely that Mizzou will pull of the upset of Oklahoma…so it looks like the Sooners will be in the BCS national championship game.

But considering Oklahoma’s 4-game lossing streak in BCS games…maybe Texas would have been the better choice. And no matter what, at least we won’t have to watch an Ohio State blow-out loss in the title game this year.
