A couple weeks ago, Tomoko saw a spider on her ceiling. Although she panics at the sight of a cockroach, I guess spiders don’t bother her and she left it alone. It’s been hanging out on her ceiling ever since. Sometimes it disappears for a little while, but before long, it’s back on the ceiling. We don’t know what it eats, but it seems to be doing ok. The spiders doesn’t move much, so sometimes we wonder if it is still alive, but if we gently prod it with the TV remote, it will move a few steps.
I’m a little more wary of the spider than Tomoko. The other day, we were joking around and I was teasing her about something. So she said 「ほら！クモが来た！」which means “Look…Here comes the spider!” I immediately looked over my shoulder in a panic expecting to see the spider descending on a strand of silk ready to attack. Needless to say, Tomoko thought it was pretty funny to see me freak out over a tiny spider.
We don’t know how long it can live in her apartment, but for the time being, it looks like Tomoko has a new pet.
