Last month I finally decided to buy the only missing part of my current generation video game collection, the Playstation 3. I have for a long time been a diehard Xbox360 fan, so many people were quite surprised I bought it. But I always said I would get one once there were three must have games for it. Metal Gear Solid 4 was the first, Final Fantasy XIII (I know its not out yet, but the demo is coming in March) was the second, and the third ended up being Little Big Planet. The hype got me. So I got the latest model that just came out, the 80 gig with free Gran Turismo 5 Prologue disk, and some games.
One month later I can clearly say that my former opinion on PS3, was without a doubt wrong. Its far much better than I expected. Its not as perfect as the 360, but I love some of the things this system does. The free online, built in out of the box wi-fi, blu-ray and media center capabilities are simply awesome. The lack of PS2 backward compatibility is a bummer though, and a major negative to the system. But the positives out weight it for me. As for the games, heres some small reviews:
Metal Gear Solid 4 – Awesome gameplay, great graphics, cutscenes are a tad long. Still having a blast to play.
Little Big Planet – Great platformer. The online levels are amazing. Haven’t touched the create your own level part of the game yet, but will soon.
Gran Turismo 5 – My favorite track, Suzuka, in HD, gorgeous! Simply gorgeous! I cant wait for the full version of the game. Online play on GT is nice too.
The Eye of Judgement – Just barely played it, interesting eyetoy card game. Need more time with it.
Ryu Ga Gotoku Kensan – Yakuza set in 1600s. Cool so far but only just started it.
I think it was well worth buying, especially with some other new exclusive games coming out. Most of my gaming budget will go to my 360, but the PS3 is a fine addition to the library. Now sadly only the Wii is gathering dust, and lots of it.
