Its Christmas Eve, and as usual in Japan its the bigger of the two days of Christmas. I like Christmas Eve a lot myself as it always seems to be a magical day. However one thing sucks, for me it will be a bit lonely. But thats OK as I plan on celebrating in usual style, with a Christmas movie/special marathon. Today I will start it off with a viewing of Urusei Yatsura episode 10, the first Christmas special in the series, and one of its best episodes. Then I’ll move onto the classic comedy, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. We then move onto another great classic, the MST3K version of Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. And to top it off, one of my favorite movies and the unquestioned greatest Christmas movie ever, A Christmas Story.
All thats missing is egg nog and someone to celebrate with. But It will still be a great Christmas I’m sure. Maybe I’ll even sneak in a viewing of Scrooged in there if I can.

That sounds like a pretty good plan.
I’m actually working today…I have a totally pointless day at school today. In the morning we had the closing ceremony, but other than that, I have precisely nothing to do. I might organize my flashcards.
And then, I might might have some editing work due on the 26th that I’ll probably try to do tonight so as to not have to do it on christmas day. Not that I have anything special going on Christmas day either. Tomoko has to work, so I’ll hang out during the day, then swap presents at night and maybe make something non-microwavable for dinner.
As for eggnog, it’s really easy to make. If you’ve never tried homemade eggnog, I totally recommend it…it is way better than what you buy at the store. If you mix booze into the store-bought eggnog, it doesn’t really mix and you have to keep stirring it to prevent a layer of alcohol forming on the top. The homemade nog, on the other hand, mixes nicely and is creamy and rich, without the slightly chemically flavor of preservatives in the store-bought stuff.

I should try making eggnog, but I don’t like mine with booze in it. Sucks you have to work today, but at least tomorrow you’ll have some time to spend on xmas.
Me, Im halfway through my marathon as I write this, 7pm Kofu time. Just got back from 7/11 where the girls were in cute Santa outfits (God I love this country), and Im about to sing with Joel and the Bots the classic song “Let’s Have a Patrick Swazee Christmas!”
The recipe works well if you leave out the hooch. Maybe just compensate with a little extra milk or cream.
Though if you’ve never had spiked homemade eggnog, you might try it…it is a million times better than spiked store bought eggnog. It tastes like the booze is supposed to be there…rather than added in after the fact. But if you just don’t like rum/brandy definitely give the plain version a shot!
I have two papers to edit…they sent another one…both due by 4pm on the 26th. So I’m gonna try to do a lot tonight, maybe a little on Xmas morning while tomoko is at work.and then finish friday morning if I’m not done by then.
Christmas…I will buy tomoko a present, run a few errands (everything is open here…and I have to get stuff done before everything starts closing for New Years), chill out, maybe download an Xmas movie, and then go over to Tomoko’s parent’s house to give Tomoko her present and hang out.
Then on Friday, I’ll call the fam since it will be Xmas in America…and I have to take my car in for shaken in that morning…and like I mentioned…finish editing.
Ill give it a try. I’ve been trying out some mixed drinks a lot this week at the parties.
I hope you have fun with Tomoko tomorrow after all the work is done.
I have to call my family too, tomorrow morning actually. Probably will be a 3 hour video phone call. Ouch.
