The article is partly a review of Garner’s Modern American Usage and partly an overview of the “seamy underbelly of U.S. lexicography”. Today, coming home on the Tsukuba Express, I noticed a sign for the emergency door release.
Reading this sign, I was struck by the disporportionate amount of Japanese relative to English.
